Vacancy for an Independent Member of the Ethics and Standards Committee

This statutory Committee plays a crucial role in maintaining high ethical standards at County Borough and Community Council levels. In summary, the role of the Committee is to promote and maintain high standards of conduct by Councillors and Co-opted Members of the Council. Full details of the Terms of
Reference of the Standards Committee can be found in Section 8 of the Council’s Constitution published on the Council’s website.
The Standards Committee meets at least once annually.

Applicants must be:

  • good listeners
  • able to assess conflicting evidence
  • able to work as part of a team
  • of good character

The following persons are not eligible to apply for the post:

  • A serving Councillor or Officer of any Council, Fire Authority, National Park Authority or Community/Town Council
  • Former Officers of Âéw¶¹´«Ã½ until two years after termination if held a politically restricted post (no restriction on non-political posts)
  • Former Councillors, two years must elapse or five years for Senior Members (e.g. held a cabinet position)
  • Former Councillors/Officers of any other Council, Fire Authority or National Park Authority until one year after termination


Remuneration is £210 daily
